Format of final paper exam

In the final exams, there are five types of questions.

Range: 遠東商務漢語 L1-3, L6, 參觀展覽(the packet printed on the paper) I will only give an exam on the vocabularies and sentence pattern I have taught in class, so you don't have to memorize some vocabularies and sentence pattern that I didn't teach. Most of the context in the final is from our text book. So please try to be familiar with the dialogue of these lessons.

1. Listening comprehension  

• You will hear a conversation or a description twice and the questions twice. Then choose the most appropriate answer.
• Study guide: the conversation is adapted from the dialogue from our text book, so please be familiar with the dialogue.

2. Multiple choices

• To choose one vocabulary or sentence that fits the sentence.

3. Fill in the blanks with vocabularies.

• You have to choose the vocabulary from the column and use it in the paragraph. I will give you the vocabulary in the column but the number of vocabularies are more than right answers so please study hard.
• The format is like the practice I gave you last Thursday, but it's a paragraph in the final.

4. Answer the questions with sentence pattern.

• I will give you a question and you are required to write a sentence with the sentence pattern I give you after each question.
• Study guide: i picked sentence patterns that I taught in class, so please review the right orders of these sentence patterns.

5. Reading comprehension

• There would be one for reading hotel room information, and one is a description.

1. Complete the vocabulary exercise I gave you today. It's a review for final exam. Please do complete it.

2. After the computer show, everyone has to make short introduction of one product in class. The product introduction should include the price, comparison of Taiwan’s and the States’ price, functions of the product, sizes, pictures and why you picked this product. Also, show what other booths you went and make comment on the computer show. The presentation should be 2-minute long.
Please make sure that everyone can see the product you introduce. PPT or poster is required in the presentation. 


3. I am going to grade your all assignment. If I have replied on your blog post to tell you how to revise the sentences, please revise it or I will grade these assignments from the original post.

Oral presentation and performance rubric

For oral performance:

• Please work in pairs to make about 10-minute dialogue. The topic could be introduce yourself in business setting, picking up a client from the airport, give clients a reception at restaurant, booking a hotel room by phone or attending electronics exhibition.
• You are required to use at least 10 vocabularies and 3 sentence patterns we learned in class. The more you use, the more score you will get in content score.
• The portion of each person's lines should be equal.

•  You are allowed to look at your script for three times on the stage but over three times will lead to point deduction. So please memorize the lines as much as you can.

• When you make dialogue, please notice the way Chinese talk and manner in Chinese business culture.

For oral presentation:

• Please pick one topic that we discussed or you are interested to compare the difference between Chinese and American business culture. You need to address differences in American and Chinese culture in relevant to that topic. 

• The presentation should be 5-8 minutes.

•           Main points are clearly and well elaborated
•           Information is well-organized
•    Fluent speech (refraining from reading the slides)
•  Speech not reading; acting not reading
•   Clear pronunciation and comprehensible sentences
•  Audible voice
•      Acting out instead of reading the lines

1.       Content of your dialogue/ presentation  20%
   
2.       Stage poise    10%
   
3.      Correct pronunciation  10%
   
4.      Fluency (no long pause; develop long sentence strings; fully expressing your idea etc.)  20%
   
5.      Thoroughness: speaking as much as you can on a particular topic, including recounting experiences, giving full descriptions, stating and supporting opinions, etc. Based on the given scenario or context, make appropriate response following Chinese cultural norm.  20% 
   6. Score from your classmates and other teachers.       20%

  * Some guests may attend the presentation. Your presentation will be scored by the guests and all students in the class.

2. Language in action: you can try to 殺價 during the weekend with the sentences we learned.  And share how much discount you got in class next Tuesday.

3. Reflection: According to your experience, please answer  following questions on your blogs.
   * Which one do you prefer, 小費 or 服務費？ why?
   * Have you ever paid  小費or 服務費 in Taiwan? Where? How did you feel about it?
   *According to your experience of ordering food in Taiwan, what is a polite way to call waiter/    waitress, order meals and make other request? What did you say to them when you ordered?
   * Compare how people call waiter in restaurant in Taiwan and America
Please write at least 150 words in English, Chinese or pinyin. You will get extra 5 points on this assignment if you write at least 50 words (complete sentences not single vocabularies) in Chinese.

4. Practice the dialogue of asking room information. We will make a "real" phone call to 民宿on next Tuesday. 

5. Think what you will perform for final oral performance.

Pair up performance: Your presentation should be 10-16minutes).The form of performance could be any role-play that we covered in this program. Please think the setting of your dialogue and what topic you will talk in the dialogue. Remember to corporate the cultural aspects of Chinese business culture we discussed in class.

         For Lucas, you can choose one topic you are interested in related to business Chinese. You need to address differences in American and Chinese culture in relevant to that topic. The presentation should be 5-8 minutes.
